Beirut: The French Embassy circulated Saturday a statement by the French Foreign Affairs Ministry in which France condemned the Israeli army's gunfire on December 26, 2025, near patrols of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The statement highlighted concerns about the safety of peacekeeping forces in the region.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the incident is the latest in a series of similar actions carried out by the Israeli army against UNIFIL in recent weeks. France has expressed its disapproval and called for an immediate cessation of these violations by Israel, urging adherence to the UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
France's statement emphasized the importance of respecting the ceasefire agreement concluded on November 26, 2024, which is binding on all parties involved. The French Foreign Affairs Ministry reiterated the need to protect peacekeeping forces and ensure the safety of United Nations personnel, property, and facilities in accordance with international law.
In addition, France commended the courage, professionalism, and commitment demonstrated by UNIFIL personnel. It renewed its support for the full implementation of UNIFIL's mandate, underscoring the crucial role of the mission in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
