French President’s Visit to Morocco Aims to Bolster Strategic Ties

RABAT: French President Emmanuel Macron's upcoming visit to Morocco, at the invitation of King Mohammed VI, is poised to enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations, following France's acknowledgment of Morocco's sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara. According to Kuwait News Agency, President Macron will be accompanied by an official delegation comprised of ten ministers, including the Foreign Minister, Interior Minister, Defense Minister, and Agriculture Minister, alongside several elected officials. The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery issued a statement noting, "This visit reflects the depth of bilateral relations, based on a deep-rooted and solid partnership, and the shared determination of the two Heads of State to strengthen the multi-dimensional ties between the two countries." The visit marks an effort to reset relations after three years of strained ties, primarily due to France's stance on the Moroccan Sahara-a position Macron amended last June by affirming his support for Morocco's sovereignty in a letter to King Mohammed VI. With France's recognition, an opportunity emerged to fortify their strategic partnership, prompting the King's invitation to President Macron and signaling a new chapter in Franco-Moroccan relations. During the three-day visit, France aims to finalize numerous agreements in sectors such as energy, industry, defense, security, technology, immigration, culture, education, and the environment. Macron is also expected to unveil investment projects targeting the Saharan regions, as France plans to establish a consulate and cultural center in Laayoune, within the Moroccan Sahara.
