Beirut: Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel emphasized the need for exclusive weapon control by the Lebanese army to ensure Lebanon's sovereignty and future prosperity. He stated that the Kataeb Party is committed to Lebanon's wellbeing and is working with the international community to end the cycle of war and destruction. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Gemayel, in an interview with "An-Nahar," called for a new chapter of hope and prosperity by establishing a functioning state with full sovereignty, where all Lebanese can actively participate in rebuilding their country. He highlighted that a strong, independent state, built on genuine partnership, is essential for creating a better future for all Lebanese. Gemayel emphasized that there are no promises yet, but solutions are being sought through international discussions. He believes that a sovereign state must have exclusive authority vested in the Lebanese army, with no armed groups remaining under any pretext. This, he argues, would ensure true equ ality and enable the building of a state that meets the aspirations of its citizens. Regarding his international meetings, Gemayel mentioned that discussions are ongoing with officials in France and upcoming visits to Washington. These meetings aim to help the international community find realistic solutions to Lebanon's crisis, emphasizing the need for practical solutions over grandstanding. Gemayel asserted that Hezbollah's disarmament is imperative for building a stable state, as militias pose foreign affiliations and agendas. Gemayel stressed that Lebanon's sovereignty must be restored, and the army should have exclusive control of arms. He urged the Shiite community to understand that external arms serve foreign interests rather than their protection. The Kataeb leader reiterated his long-standing stance against militias, emphasizing that Lebanon's foundation should not include armed groups. He further criticized Hezbollah and House Speaker Nabih Berri for blocking presidential elections, noting Leban on's entanglement in a proxy war between Israel and Iran. Gemayel expressed his belief that solutions are clear but require empowerment of the Lebanese state to negotiate effectively. Reflecting on the current crisis, Gemayel called for pressure on Iran and Israel to halt violence and adhere to international and constitutional resolutions. He warned of the dangers posed by the presence of numerous refugees and weapons, urging for a swift end to the war to prevent further catastrophe. Gemayel concluded by envisioning a decentralized Lebanon with regional autonomy, free from regional conflicts, and with a liberal economy that ensures social protection. He emphasized the need to reclaim decision-making power and bring Lebanese youth back to their homeland, ultimately restoring Lebanon to its former prosperity.
