Beirut: Prime Minister, Dr. Nawaf Salam, on Friday welcomed German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, and his accompanying delegation at the Grand Serail, where discussions focused on the situation in southern Lebanon and the phase following the conclusion of UNIFIL's mandate.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Wadephul reaffirmed Germany's readiness 'to stand by Lebanon and support the Lebanese Army during the upcoming international conference,' stressing 'the importance of the Lebanese government's continued implementation of financial and administrative reforms and the finalization of the IMF agreement, which is crucial for restoring international confidence and advancing economic recovery.'
Prime Minister Salam stated that 'the government has completed a package of reforms, particularly in the financial and administrative sectors, and is working to finalize the draft law addressing the financial gap as soon as possible.'
Salam added that 'the new phase following the Gaza agreement and the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit presents a real opportunity, yet stability will remain elusive without a genuine and just peace process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.' Salam reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to 'the Arab Peace Initiative adopted in Beirut, which upholds the two-state solution.'
