Beirut: A group of MPs on Tuesday held an expanded emergency meeting to discuss developments related to the proposed general amnesty law amid ongoing contacts with President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and political leaders.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the lawmakers described the issue as a "national and humanitarian" file aimed at lifting injustice affecting broad segments of Lebanese society. They said discussions within joint parliamentary committees had reached an advanced stage after significant progress on key provisions, stressing the need to avoid any political steps that could obstruct the process.
The MPs called for urgent joint committee sessions within one week to finalize the draft law before referring it to parliament's general assembly for approval.
