Tripoli: Interior and Municipalities Minister, Ahmad Hajjar, chaired a meeting of the North Lebanon Regional Security Council at the Independence Hall in Tripoli's Serail. The gathering included Acting Governor Iman Rafii, security and judicial officials, and senior military commanders.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, in a press conference following the meeting, Hajjar stated his visit to Tripoli was to personally monitor the city's needs, maintain stability, and bolster citizens' trust in the state. He underlined the necessity of coordination among security agencies to tackle thefts and local disturbances.
Hajjar affirmed that security is both a right for citizens and a duty of the state, pledging ongoing field follow-ups on all security and service matters. Regarding elections, he confirmed the government's commitment to holding parliamentary elections as scheduled in May 2026 with transparency and adherence to legal deadlines.
The minister also addressed prisoner-related issues, noting collaboration with the Prime Minister, the Justice and Defense Ministries, and Syrian authorities to resolve pending cases. He assured that Lebanese inmates would not be neglected, emphasizing efforts to expedite trials and reduce overcrowding.
Hajjar concluded by expressing optimism about Tripoli's situation, citing progress from joint efforts of state institutions, the judiciary, and security forces.
