Hajjar Outlines Displacement Challenges and Aid Initiatives

BEIRUT: Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs, Hector Hajjar, addressed the ongoing issues of housing and displacement during a press conference, highlighting that 93% of displaced residents have returned to their villages following a ceasefire. Despite this progress, approximately 100,000 housing units remain uninhabitable, and recent displacement from Syria to areas such as Hermel and Baalbek requires immediate attention. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Hajjar emphasized the importance of prioritizing the return of Lebanese citizens and announced new support measures. By the third week of December, eligible individuals with updated disability cards will receive $100, with efforts underway to update and issue new cards. Additionally, mobile medical clinics, in partnership with the Red Cross, have been deployed to underserved areas, beginning with Marjayoun, with plans to expand to Sidon, Jezzine, and other regions. Hajjar recognized the dedication of healthcare teams working under challenging c onditions and reiterated the ministry's commitment to reopening centers and improving health, psychological, and social services across the nation. He concluded by affirming the ministry's dedication to a better future for Lebanon and its people.
