Hammam Hammoudi: Holding Elections Is A Settled Matter And Without Them The Unknown

Baghdad The head of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council, Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi, called for holding a conference with the participation of all parties to approve a national electoral charter, guaranteeing wide electoral participation, and procedures for electoral integrity and security for the polling day, linking rules of conduct to the penal code, defining post-election features, and mechanisms to meet citizen needs.

He stressed during his meeting with cadres of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council that: elections are the people’s demand first and the religious authority second, and the United Nations will participate based on a Security Council resolution, and that holding it is a settled matter and without it means going to the unknown, and this is not acceptable to everyone and at all local, regional and international levels.

Hammoudi pointed out: “The external parties, which were eager to hold the elections, are not currently enthusiastic for several reasons, the most important of which is their awareness of the reality of the street, unlike what appeared at that time.”

He noted: “The coordination framework meeting crystallized a common vision regarding the elections and the importance of holding them on time, and questioned the patriotism of all those who wanted to postpone them.”

He called on the media to stress that holding the elections is a settled matter and not subject to discussion, and there is no justification for fear of internal conflict.

Regarding the US withdrawal, Sheikh Hammoudi indicated: “The decision has been taken in this regard, and the withdrawal is scheduled to be fully scheduled until the end of this year, and we have called for the sovereignty of the skies and the details will be between the ministries and institutions directly concerned.”

He stressed the importance of preserving the prestige of the state and maintaining the rule of law, which is a basic requirement that we must emphasize, and that we work to diagnose the problem and identify the direct responsible when problems occur instead of generalizing the problem, self-flagellation, and judging the entire experience of failure, which will not bring solutions, and this needs awareness and insight on different levels.

He stressed the importance of honoring the families of the martyrs in loyalty to the popular mobilization, which is the basis for the survival of this system, and working to cherish its values within the community to keep it vibrant, popular and purity. And to pass on to society new values unlike the society of the (Baath pharaohs) who sought to tear it apart and sow hatred and hypocrisy among its sons, which made us today in need to establish new social values, foremost among which is the altruism that we learned from the PMF, and that society is characterized by generosity, morals, and the new value system that we are witnessing during the forty years, spreading the new spirit and reviving our authentic Iraqi values.
