BEIRUT: Hezbollah has reiterated its dedication to electing a new president for Lebanon during the parliamentary session set for January 9, as stated by MP Hassan Fadlallah. The announcement underscores the party's intent to navigate Lebanon's complex political landscape through collaboration and constitutional adherence.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Fadlallah made his remarks at a commemorative event, emphasizing that the election process requires cooperation between key parliamentary blocs with shared goals. He highlighted that the constitutional texts clearly outline the quorum needed for the session and the electoral requirements, suggesting that the procedure is straightforward within the constitutional framework.
Fadlallah stressed the significance of Hezbollah's partnership with the Amal Movement. He noted that both groups are in alignment to ensure the election of a president who can engage effectively with all political factions within Lebanon. "We are approaching the presidential election with a full consensus between Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, aiming for a president capable of cooperating with everyone," Fadlallah stated.
He also called for national unity in rebuilding Lebanon's constitutional institutions, dealing with the repercussions of Israeli aggression, and enhancing the country's overall conditions. Fadlallah highlighted the essential qualities required in the next president, particularly the importance of maintaining sovereignty against any violations, with a specific emphasis on challenges posed by Israel.
Fadlallah concluded with an expression of hope, stating, "We aspire to achieve results by the specified date," signaling optimism for the forthcoming electoral session.
