Vienna: The U.N. nuclear watchdog head demanded Monday the return of agency inspectors to Iran's nuclear sites in a bid to "account for" its highly enriched uranium stockpiles following attacks by Israel and the United States on its atomic program.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Rafael Grossi, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), urged an emergency meeting at the organization's headquarters in Vienna to facilitate the return of IAEA inspectors to Iran. This move is deemed crucial to assess and account for the stockpiles of uranium, including the "400 kilograms enriched to 60 percent."
Grossi further revealed that Tehran had communicated with him through a letter dated June 13, indicating the implementation of "special measures to protect nuclear equipment and materials." This development comes in the wake of the United States launching strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend, aligning with Israel's ongoing campaign against Iran's nuclear program.
