Beirut: Interior Minister, Brigadier General Ahmad al-Hajjar, declared in a press conference following the Emergency Central Security Council meeting that any attack on United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is deemed a criminal act. This statement underscores the Lebanese government's stance on maintaining security and protecting international peacekeeping forces in the region.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, al-Hajjar provided updates on the ongoing efforts to address the situation, revealing that more than 25 individuals are currently detained by the Lebanese Army Intelligence. Additionally, there is one detainee held by the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces. Al-Hajjar clarified that these detentions do not imply direct involvement in the attack on UNIFIL, as investigations are still underway to identify the responsible parties.
Al-Hajjar emphasized the seriousness of the investigations and reassured the public of the government's commitment to a thorough inquiry. He instructed the army and security forces to enforce strict measures on the ground to ensure the safety of citizens and uphold public order. While acknowledging the right to express opinions, he reiterated that actions like roadblocks and property encroachments are unacceptable.
