Beirut: Interior and Municipalities Minister, Ahmad Al-Hajjar, on Monday met North Lebanon Governor Iman Al-Rafai to review the implementation of a Cabinet decision authorizing the National Cement Company and Holcim Lebanon to operate and rehabilitate their cement quarries in North Lebanon following the issuance of the required permits. The meeting also approved the formation of a local oversight committee to monitor compliance with the conditions governing quarry operations and rehabilitation. Al-Hajjar stressed the need for full adherence to environmental standards and applicable legal requirements.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the decision to form a local oversight committee marks an important step towards ensuring that the operations of the cement quarries are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner.
