Beirut: Interior Minister, Ahmad Hajjar, on Thursday chaired a meeting with senior security and local officials to discuss worsening traffic congestion in Beirut and Mount Lebanon and measures aimed at improving traffic flow.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the meeting was attended by Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud, Mount Lebanon Governor Mohammad Makkawi, Internal Security Forces chief Major General Raed Abdallah, and senior officers. Hajjar emphasized the necessity of intensifying field efforts to alleviate congestion in the capital, its entrances, and major cities. He directed authorities to increase the deployment of traffic police at busy intersections and main roads, particularly during peak hours.
Hajjar also mandated stricter enforcement against traffic violations, encroachments on public property and sidewalks, and double parking. He called for enhanced coordination with municipal police and guards to effectively manage traffic issues. The officials urged motorists to comply with Internal Security Forces guidelines to help improve road safety and traffic movement.
