Tel Aviv: Israeli media reported that the Israeli Cabinet approved an aid delivery plan for Gaza through private security contractors. This plan, discussed Sunday night, involves handing over aid boxes directly to individuals while keeping the Israeli army out of the delivery process. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, officials noted that the plan provides an outer security layer for private contractors and international organizations distributing aid. This initiative, yet to be scheduled for implementation, received approval from all Cabinet members except National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The Washington Post indicated that the plan might involve American security contractors and could be enacted before the end of the month, potentially coinciding with President Donald Trump's visit to the region in mid-May. Despite this, the plan faces opposition from the UN and multiple international aid groups, citing concerns over humanitarian principles and the safety of Palestinian civilians and aid workers. The UN Humanitarian Country Team in Gaza expressed its stance, supporting only those plans that adhere to humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, independence, and impartiality. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with over 52,500 Palestinians, mainly women and children, killed since October 2023. Further complicating matters, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice concerning its actions in the enclave.
