Beirut: The Ministry of Industry in Lebanon has received a significant boost to its technological capabilities with the handover of IT and networking equipment. This initiative is funded by the European Union under the "2Circular" Project, implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The project aims to aid Lebanon's progress towards a sustainable and resource-efficient industrial future.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the official handover ceremony was held at the Ministry of Industry headquarters in Beirut, with the presence of H.E. the Minister of Industry, representatives from the European Union Delegation to Lebanon, and UNIDO. The equipment comprises an integrated network infrastructure, switches, cables, UPS units, and multifunction printers. This initiative is intended to boost the Ministry's technical and administrative capacities, enhance digital connectivity, and improve efficiency across its central and regional offices.
H.E. Mr. Joe Issa El Khoury, Minister of Industry, expressed gratitude towards the European Union and UNIDO for this critical support. He emphasized the importance of developing digital infrastructure to streamline services and accelerate industrial processes, which are vital for Lebanon's economic recovery and sustainable development.
Mr. Cyril Dewaleyne, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Lebanon, highlighted the EU's commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability, and economic recovery in Lebanon. He expressed pride in their partnership with the Ministry of Industry and UNIDO in promoting a circular economy and green development, aiming to enhance governance and efficiency within Lebanon's industrial sector.
Ms. Soha Atallah, an Industrial Development Expert at UNIDO, noted that the equipment selection was tailored to the Ministry's needs, facilitating effective and transparent industrial licensing and transaction processing. She reiterated UNIDO's commitment to supporting national institutions and advancing Lebanon's transition towards a sustainable economy.
Further equipment is being procured to support the Ministry's environmental and occupational health inspection functions, enhancing its capacity for monitoring and compliance with standards. The "2Circular" Project continues to support Lebanese industries by providing infrastructure, technical assistance, and promoting circular economy principles to reduce resource waste and encourage sustainable growth.
