Javad Zarif Calls for “Comprehensive Peace Agreement” with United States

Beirut: Former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called Friday for a "comprehensive peace agreement" with the United States,

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Sky News Arabia. In an article published by "Foreign Affairs" magazine, Zarif emphasized the importance of resolving the underlying conflict to achieve lasting peace, rather than relying on a fragile ceasefire. He urged both countries to view the current crisis as an opportunity to end a 47-year-long hostility.

Zarif, who served as foreign minister from 2013 to 2021, warned that continued enmity would result in more loss of lives and depletion of resources. He noted that Iran's missile and nuclear programs have demonstrated resilience against military interventions and proposed that Tehran might consider limiting its nuclear program and reopening the Strait of Hormuz in return for the lifting of international sanctions. He also pointed out the potential for economic cooperation that could be mutually beneficial.

He suggested that despite the war's destruction, it might pave the way for a permanent settlement, with Iranians remaining steadfast. Zarif concluded by acknowledging the resilience of Iranians, stating, "The Iranians may be angry, but they may move forward knowing that they stood tall against a massive and illegitimate military aggression by two nuclear powers."
