Jordan and Japan Discuss Future Cooperation on Water Sector Projects

WASHINGTON: Jordan and Japan are set to enhance their collaboration on water sector projects, as revealed in a meeting between Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan, and Shohei Hara, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The discussions, held on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, focused on the projects expected to be formalized in the coming months, as well as Japan's forthcoming financial and technical assistance priorities for Jordan. According to Jordan News Agency, Minister Toukan expressed her appreciation to the Japanese government and people for their ongoing support of Jordan. She emphasized the importance of the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. The collaboration has been significant, with Jordan receiving nearly $2 billion in aid from Japan since 1999, comprising both grants an d concessional loans. This substantial financial support has played a crucial role in bolstering Jordan's budget and funding numerous developmental projects across various sectors. These include water, energy, environment, healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation. The aid has also been instrumental in advancing the industrial and tourism sectors, as well as human resources and vocational training programs.
