Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday welcomed Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his accompanying delegation at the Second Presidency in Ain al-Tineh. The meeting was attended by Jordan's Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Hadid, and Speaker Berri's media advisor, Ali Hamdan. Discussions covered Lebanon's and the region's general situation, political and field developments, and bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Safadi conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Kingdom's appreciation for Berri's role in helping Lebanon navigate its recent crisis. Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's support for Lebanon's security, sovereignty, and stability, expressing hope that this new phase marks a turning point for Lebanon to overcome past challenges and move toward a brighter future. He emphasized that Jordan stands firmly with Lebanon in addressing the repercussions of past crises and expressed optimism about Lebanon's future following the election of a new president and the designation of a prime minister.
Safadi commended Speaker Berri's pivotal role and expressed eagerness for continued cooperation to strengthen the historic relations between Jordan and Lebanon. He addressed concerns about the possibility of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu violating the Gaza ceasefire, stressing the importance of adhering to the agreement announced by mediators Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. Safadi called for full compliance with the ceasefire and urged international efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, highlighting the urgent need for peace and stability.
The Jordanian Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, stating that the ceasefire must lead to meaningful action to establish a political horizon that fulfills Palestinian rights and establishes their sovereign state. Safadi concluded with optimism about regional developments, noting the election of a president and prime minister in Lebanon, the ceasefire in Gaza, and growing international support for Syria's rebuilding efforts as signs of hope for a stable and prosperous future in the region.
