Jordan’s Tourism Revenue Declines Amidst Falling International Visitors

AMMAN: Jordan has witnessed a significant decrease in tourism revenue, with figures for the third quarter of 2024 showing a 4.3% drop compared to the previous year, totaling $5.571 billion. This decline is primarily attributed to a 7% reduction in the number of tourists visiting the country.

According to Jordan News Agency, data from the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) highlights a mixed picture in terms of revenue sources. While there has been an increase in tourism revenue from Jordanian expatriates and Arab visitors, which rose by 4.9% and 10.9% respectively, these gains were overshadowed by steep declines from other key markets. Specifically, tourism revenue from Europe plummeted by 54.3%, followed by America at 38.6%, and other countries at 20.4%.

The overall downturn in tourism revenue poses challenges for Jordan’s economy, which has historically relied heavily on the tourism sector as a significant source of income and employment. The decrease in European and American tourists, who typically spend more
during their visits, has had a particularly harsh impact on the sector’s financial health.
