AMMAN: The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) marked World Standards Day by committing to enhance its performance and develop quality standards that contribute to sustainable development and economic growth.
According to Jordan News Agency, the JSMO participated with other international, regional, and national standardization bodies in the World Standards Day celebrations, held annually on October 14. This year’s theme, “A Shared Vision for a Better World: Standards for Sustainable Development Goals,” highlights the critical role of collaborative efforts in achieving the sustainable development goals which focus on social equity, economic sustainability, and climate action.
Abeer Zuhair, the director general of JSMO, emphasized the organization’s ongoing initiatives to enhance the quality infrastructure, which is fundamental to the economic development and community well-being in Jordan. Zuhair reported that JSMO has developed over 3,000 Jordanian standard specifications and technical guidel
ines spanning various sectors, including renewable energy, sustainable urban development, and eco-friendly construction materials.
Zuhair underscored the importance of standardization in fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality and global competitiveness of national products. She outlined JSMO’s strategy to continue evolving quality infrastructure activities in coordination with relevant stakeholders and in line with best international practices.
“The JSMO renews its commitment to tirelessly work on developing standard specifications that meet future needs and provide solutions to economic and environmental challenges,” said Zuhair. She also expressed optimism about increasing cooperation with both public and private sector partners in Jordan to achieve a sustainable future.
