Beirut: In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Minister of Justice, Adel Nassar, emphasized the crucial need for all weapons to be placed under the exclusive control of the Lebanese state. He affirmed that the widespread availability of arms has repeatedly embroiled Lebanon in destructive conflicts.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Nassar highlighted that the issue of arms control is not merely influenced by foreign elements but is intrinsically linked to the state-building process in Lebanon. He asserted that for this process to be complete, exclusive control over force is necessary.
The Justice Minister further argued that since the year 2000, weapons outside the control of the state have not served to protect Lebanon. Instead, these weapons have dragged the country into wars, resulting in severe consequences without achieving the intended 'balance of terror.'
Nassar called on Hezbollah to acknowledge that its arsenal contradicts the fundamental principles of state-building. He concluded by stating that no party should impede the establishment of a functioning state.
