Kanaan After Meeting Berri: Public Sector Measures Must Be Fair, Depositors’ Rights Non-Negotiable

Beirut: Head of the Parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee, Ibrahim Kanaan, on Tuesday visited Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh, stressing that exceptional measures to secure some public sector rights are necessary after years of hardship, provided they are carefully studied and fair, without shifting the burden onto citizens in both the public and private sectors.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Kanaan said financial reforms, including the banking reform and financial gap laws, require thorough review to safeguard rights and ensure implementation, particularly the financial gap bill, which has faced widespread objections.

“We will carry the burden as usual in these difficult circumstances, but sacrificing depositors’ rights is not an option,” Kanaan stated firmly.

On the topic of elections, Kanaan underscored the need to respect the Constitution and institutions weeks before the vote, warning against undermining democratic principles.
