Beirut: Education Minister, Rima Karami, on Wednesday chaired an extensive virtual consultative meeting with education officials, school representatives, teachers’ unions, and principals to discuss the future of Lebanon’s secondary school examinations following the government’s decision to postpone the first examination session.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the meeting was held following a recommendation from Parliament’s Education Committee and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s decision to allow additional preparation time pending security developments, lasting more than three hours.
Participants presented differing views ranging from canceling official exams to proceeding with them under the ministry’s flexible three-session framework, while others proposed further postponement or optional examinations.
Karami stated that all proposals would be carefully reviewed before being submitted to the Cabinet, emphasizing that student safety and educational fairness remain the ministry’s guiding principles. She also called for long-term solutions that preserve the credibility of the Lebanese baccalaureate while protecting students’ rights amid recurring national crises.
