Beirut: The Lebanese Kataeb Party congratulated the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) on their win in Germany's parliamentary elections, wishing Chancellor Friedrich Merz success in leading Germany toward a brighter future.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Kataeb Party's Foreign Affairs Department expressed their congratulations in a post on X, highlighting the significance of the CDU/CSU victory in the elections. The statement also emphasized the anticipation for a stronger German role on the global stage under Chancellor Merz's leadership.
In a formal letter addressed to Chancellor Merz, Lebanese Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel extended his congratulations on the coalition's victory in the Bundestag elections and Merz's election as Federal Chancellor of Germany. Gemayel expressed confidence in Merz's leadership, noting that Germany would continue to strengthen its global position, particularly in economic power, the defense of democracy, and the promotion of freedom worldwide.
Gemayel reflected on the long-standing ties between Lebanon and Germany and the strong relationship between their respective parties, which dates back to the 1950s. He emphasized shared values and mutual dedication to advancing the prosperity of both nations and addressing global challenges.
The Kataeb leader further expressed his hopes for even closer cooperation between the Lebanese Kataeb Party and the CDU/CSU. Gemayel concluded his letter by wishing Chancellor Merz great success in his mandate, for the benefit of Germany, Europe, and the world.
