Siena:The Kataeb Party's Political Bureau, led by MP Samy Gemayel, has called for an urgent judicial investigation into a confiscated shipment of weapons and explosives reportedly linked to Hezbollah. The party is pressing the government to enforce its directives prohibiting Hezbollah's military and security activities.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the bureau stated that an admission by a Hezbollah MP regarding the ownership of the shipment implicates the party in terms of political responsibility and raises significant concerns about national security and civil peace. The Kataeb Party supports the Justice Minister's initiative to refer the explosives case to the Judicial Council to ascertain the shipment's intended destination and identify those accountable.
The bureau further urged the immediate dismantling of Hezbollah's military and security structures and the disarmament of the group. On economic issues, the Kataeb Party opposed imposing additional financial burdens on citizens, advocating for lower taxes, administrative reform, reduced public spending, measures against tax evasion and smuggling, and the recovery of state revenues.
The party also cautioned against using social tensions to weaken efforts to re-establish state sovereignty, emphasizing that stability relies on institutional reform, law enforcement, and the restoration of state authority. The meeting commenced with a tribute to Lebanese Army personnel who died on October 13, 1990, honoring their defense of Lebanon's sovereignty and independence.
