Beirut: The Kataeb’s Political Bureau, led by Samy Gemayel, held its weekly meeting to discuss the latest political and security developments and issued a statement calling for immediate attention to the expatriate voting law.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon,the Political Bureau expressed concern over the handling of expatriate voting, viewing it as a significant issue affecting Lebanese citizens abroad. It highlighted the importance of expatriates, who play a crucial role in the national economy through remittances and support for families. The Bureau criticized the Speaker of Parliament for not placing relevant draft laws on the legislative agenda, emphasizing that any delay undermines Lebanon’s democratic foundations. It urged Parliament to convene promptly to ensure expatriates can vote for all 128 members of the legislature.
The Political Bureau also welcomed a judicial agreement with Syria, approved by the Council of Ministers, regarding the transfer of convicted Syrian prisoners. It called for a reassessment of the Treaty of Brotherhood, Cooperation and Coordination, and the abolition of the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council. The Bureau stressed that relations with Syria should be based on equality and mutual respect between two sovereign states.
Additionally, the Political Bureau expressed satisfaction with the Army Commander’s visit to Washington and urged international support for the Lebanese Armed Forces. It emphasized the need to confine weapons north of the Litani River and dismantle Hezbollah’s military apparatus to maintain peace and protect democratic integrity in southern Lebanon.
