Beirut: The Kataeb's Political Bureau, led by party chief Samy Gemayel, convened for its weekly meeting to discuss recent developments and key issues facing Lebanon. In a statement released after the meeting, the bureau emphasized concerns over the situation along the Syrian coast and its potential impact on Lebanon, particularly in the north. The bureau lauded the Lebanese Army for promptly addressing attempts to incite unrest in Tripoli.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the bureau urged Lebanese security forces to strengthen border controls and monitor crossings, both legal and illegal, in response to the recent influx of Syrian families into the country. This action is deemed crucial to averting a resurgence of the refugee crisis, which could further destabilize Lebanon internally.
The bureau also addressed statements from Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, criticizing them as disconnected from reality. The bureau asserted that Hezbollah should not dictate terms to the Lebanese State or influence government agendas, particularly concerning reforms and economic recovery. The bureau called for Hezbollah to allow the President and Prime Minister to operate without external pressures.
Amid Lebanon's security and economic challenges, the Political Bureau stressed the necessity of finalizing key appointments swiftly to facilitate meaningful reform. It emphasized that these appointments should be based on merit and integrity, free from political influences of the past.
The bureau welcomed progress in the Beirut Port explosion investigation, with Judicial Investigator Tarek Bitar now able to fully resume his inquiries. The party praised Justice Minister Adel Nassar for his efforts to advance justice for the victims by removing obstacles hindering the investigation.
