Aqaba: His Majesty King Abdullah II and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni engaged in discussions on Friday aimed at de-escalating regional tensions, with a focus on the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. The meeting, held in the city of Aqaba, underscored the urgency of intensified efforts to halt hostilities and protect civilians in the affected areas. According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions highlighted the necessity of boosting humanitarian responses in Gaza and ensuring the consistent delivery of medical and relief aid to the region. His Majesty emphasized the importance of continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to enable it to fulfill its mandate effectively. The King also warned against the ongoing attacks by extremist settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations of holy sites in Jerusalem, urging for effective measures to establish a political horizon for a just peace based on a two-state solution . The talks further touched on the significance of coordinated efforts to enhance the response to the Syrian refugee crisis. Both leaders also explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations, with King Abdullah expressing a desire to expand cooperation across various sectors. Prime Minister Meloni conveyed Italy's appreciation for Jordan's humanitarian efforts in Gaza. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Italian Ambassador to Jordan Luciano Pezzotti.
