Kuwait Celebrates “White Cane Safety Day” with Significant Gathering of Disability Rights Organizations

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait marked the international "White Cane Safety Day" with a significant assembly of 24 bodies and institutions dedicated to the rights of disabled people on Tuesday. The event highlighted the ongoing efforts to address the needs and rights of the visually impaired within the country. According to Kuwait News Agency, the gathering was addressed by Dr. Khalifa Al-Haila, the acting deputy chief for medical, psychological, and social services at Kuwait's Public Authority for Disability Affairs. Dr. Al-Haila emphasized the authority's commitment to an "open-door" policy, a directive in alignment with the instructions of the country's social affairs minister. This approach aims to effectively respond to the needs of people with disabilities. The event's chief organizer, Abdurrahman Al-Adwani, noted the unique nature of this year's turnout, which brought together a diverse group of organizations and institutions focused on disability rights. This collective effort underscores the community's dedica tion to enhancing the welfare of disabled individuals in Kuwait. Further emphasizing the importance of such events, Dr. Faisal Al-Jassar, a member of the Kuwait Ophthalmic Society, pointed out that these gatherings are crucial for generating awareness about various disabilities.
