Kuwait Fund Allocates $2 Million to Aid Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh

Kuwait city: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has announced a new grant agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), allocating two million dollars to support Rohingya refugees residing in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. According to Kuwait News Agency, the agreement was signed on Thursday and aims to enhance the living conditions, safety, and health of approximately 140,000 Rohingya refugees. Acting Director General of the Fund, Waleed Al-Bahar, detailed that the grant would be used to provide essential building materials to strengthen the refugees' homes and supply liquefied petroleum gas for cooking to around 18,000 families over a 12-month period. This initiative marks the sixth collaboration between KFAED and UNHCR in humanitarian efforts, but it is the first specifically targeting the needs of the Rohingya in Bangladesh. Since their partnership began in 2016, KFAED has contributed approximately USD 22 million to various UNHCR projects. UNHCR Representative t o Kuwait, Nisreen Rabiaan, expressed her gratitude towards Kuwait and the Kuwaiti Fund for their consistent support to refugee causes globally. She highlighted the significance of the Fund as a longstanding partner of the Commission, having signed several agreements to assist refugees in different regions worldwide. The commitment by KFAED to support the Rohingya refugees underscores the ongoing international efforts to address one of the most pressing humanitarian crises in the region.
