Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Supports Global Health with USD 8 Million Grant

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) confirmed the signing of a grant agreement with the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Malaria, and Tuberculosis, providing USD 8 million to help combat these diseases globally over the 2023-2025 period. According to Kuwait News Agency, the grant aims to enhance the financial resources of the Global Fund and will be utilized to develop sustainable and adaptable health systems in various countries. This cooperation will also involve the World Health Organization and the United Nations Development Program as part of a wider effort to raise USD 18 billion needed to support global health initiatives focused on reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. The Global Fund's strategy with this funding is to assist nations in saving an estimated 20 million lives, reduce death rates from the three targeted diseases by 60 percent, and prevent infections among 450 million people. This contribution marks KFAED's seventh installment aimed at tackling international disease and epidemics, and its third specifically dedicated to these three diseases. Previously, KFAED had allocated USD 5 million for the 2017-2019 period and USD 6 million for 2020-2022 to the Global Fund, underscoring its ongoing commitment to global health. The agreement was officially signed by KFAED Acting Director General Walid Al-Bahr and Francoise Vanni, Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Global Fund.
