Kuwait City: Kuwait on Wednesday participated in a Qatar-hosted conference focused on family trends and affairs, alongside challenges faced by families across the Arab region. The event, attended by Kuwaiti Social Affairs Minister Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, marks the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Family, exploring existential hardships faced by Arab families, including the effects of rapid technological advancements, noted Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, head of a Qatar-based education and research body. According to Kuwait News Agency, Sheikha Moza emphasized the rampant misuse of technology, particularly virtual reality, as a significant factor altering societal landscapes. This highlights the increasingly vital role families play in addressing these challenges. UN Deputy Secretary-General and chief of the UN's Sustainable Development Group, Amina Mohammed, discussed the importance of "prudence" in overcoming these hardships, pointing to long-term sustainable development plans as an effective str ategy. Doha's Social Affairs Minister, Mariam Al-Mesnad, described families as a fundamental pillar of a "flourishing" society, noting that national development plans are centered around familial principles and values, which further emphasize the importance of family bonds. The two-day conference, organized by a Qatar-based family advocacy body, examines modern challenges and hardships faced by families, including issues arising from technological advancements and climate change.
