Kuwait Prioritizes Economic Diversification and Business Environment Enhancement

Kuwait city: Kuwait is intensifying efforts to bolster its business environment and pivot towards a diversified economy, as articulated by Noura Al-Fassam, the nation's Minister of Finance, Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, and Acting Minister of Oil. The announcement was made during the 2024 Annual Meetings Plenary of the World Bank Group and governors of the Arab central banks. According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Fassam emphasized Kuwait's focus on leveraging its human resources while also expanding financing opportunities and fostering long-term partnerships. She highlighted that the country is committed to constructing a regulatory framework conducive to investment as part of its broader economic diversification strategy. This strategy aims to broaden priority sectors, exploit market opportunities, and enhance infrastructure to build a resilient economy capable of addressing future challenges. Kuwait, along with other Gulf Cooperation Council members, is undergoing a significant eco nomic transformation that necessitates a gradual shift away from oil dependency. The minister underscored the importance of strategic, long-term investments centered around innovation, technology, and sustainability to achieve this shift. Al-Fassam also reiterated Kuwait's dedication to forming strategic partnerships on both regional and international levels. These partnerships are deemed essential for advancing sustainable development throughout the Arab world. The Plenary, which marked the conclusion of the two-day 2024 IMF-WBG annual meetings, featured participation from World Bank Group President Ajay Banga and leaders of monetary institutions from various Arab nations.
