Kuwait Reaffirms Human Rights Commitment at IWECBO Conference


KUWAIT CITY: At the 50th Conference of the International Organization for Women Empowerment and Capacity Building (IWECBO), Kuwait underscored its enduring commitment to human rights, with Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, highlighting the nation’s role in fostering regional and international cooperation on these issues.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Sheikha Jawaher, during her speech at the conference, which was held at the Sabah Al-Salem University Conference Center, stressed the importance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ sponsorship in promoting human rights and initiating constructive dialogues to advance these rights locally and globally. She reaffirmed Kuwait’s dedication to the dissemination of human rights culture and enhancing cooperation at various levels.

The event, which began on Sunday under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saw significant participation from experts, academics, and researchers from
the GCC and Arab countries. It focused on addressing the challenges in implementing human rights standards in the region and showcased local and regional initiatives aimed at promoting these rights.

Kuwait’s recent election to the UN Human Rights Council, receiving 183 votes, was mentioned as a testament to the country’s transparent and comprehensive approach to human rights. Sheikha Jawaher pointed out that Kuwait’s membership in the Council is backed by 11 pledges focusing on improving children’s rights, labor conditions for expatriate workers, and advancing women’s rights and empowerment in economic and social sectors.

The conference also explored current challenges and innovative solutions to enhance human rights in the region, aligning with Kuwait’s Vision 2035, which aims to build a just and equal society. Dr. Ali Al-Zoubi, Acting Dean of the College of Social Sciences at Kuwait University, expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its significant role in advancing community init
iatives related to human rights, and noted the conference’s support for significant GCC and Arab regional initiatives to develop practical frameworks to overcome human rights challenges.
