GENEVA: Kuwait's representative to United Nations agencies in Geneva has called for immediate international action to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. Speaking at the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen emphasized the need for prioritizing humanitarian responses amid ongoing conflicts in the region. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Hayen highlighted the critical situation resulting from what he described as blatant aggression by the Israeli occupation, which has led to civilian casualties and displacements, particularly affecting women and children. He condemned the actions of the occupying forces in the Middle East and criticized their disregard for international laws and mediation efforts. Al-Hayen underscored the necessity for intensified roles of international and humanitarian organizations in the current global landscape. He urged the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in mai ntaining peace and security. The ambassador reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to providing swift humanitarian aid and enhancing international cooperation, in line with the directives from the nation's leadership. The ambassador also reiterated Kuwait's ongoing pledge to offer humanitarian assistance globally to those affected by conflicts and disasters. He noted that Kuwait remains a leading contributor in providing aid to those in need. The conference in Geneva serves as a platform for consultation and coordination among 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent societies and representatives from 196 countries that are parties to the Geneva Convention. The agenda focuses on urgent humanitarian issues, including adherence to international humanitarian law, protection of civilians and relief workers, the implications of digital technologies on warfare, enabling locally led humanitarian initiatives, and safeguarding individuals from climate-related impacts.
