Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Highlights Achievements of EU-GCC Summit

Kuwait city: Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya praised the outcomes of the recent Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and European Union (EU) Summit for foreign ministers held in Brussels, Belgium. Al-Yahya highlighted the strategic significance of the summit, describing it as a historic event that marks a new phase of enhanced cooperation between the GCC and EU nations on an international scale. According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Yahya emphasized that the summit served as a practical step towards deepening political, security, and economic ties amidst significant global transformations. He mentioned that this meeting was pivotal, especially considering the sensitive timing and the pressing need to discuss critical issues such as security and stability in the Middle East. The summit also addressed the situations in Palestine and Lebanon, with the European side expressing particular interest in the ceasefire efforts across these territories. Al-Yahya noted the EU's commitment to the stability and security of the region and stressed the importance of a fair political solution to prevent ongoing instability. Further, Al-Yahya referred to a speech by the representative of the Amir of Kuwait, which underscored the strong partnership between the GCC and EU. He outlined the broad scope of the partnership, which includes tackling global challenges like food security, climate change, and sustainable energy. On economic fronts, Al-Yahya pointed out that the summit acknowledged the need for a robust and sustainable economic partnership, focusing on technology, innovation, digital economy, environmental sustainability, and renewable energy. He revealed that the next ministerial meeting is scheduled to take place in Kuwait in 2025, with high expectations for continued progress in EU-GCC relations. Additionally, Al-Yahya expressed anticipation for the 2026 summit in Saudi Arabia, which he believes will further cement the partnership.
