Beirut: Labor Minister, Mohammad Haidar, on Friday engaged in strategic discussions with European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Sandra De Waele to address the challenges confronting Lebanon's labor market. The talks emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation on initiatives that support workers, businesses, vocational training, and employment sectors.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Haidar also had a meeting with International Organization for Migration (IOM) Lebanon Chief of Mission Matthew Luciano to deliberate on collaboration in migration management. In a separate engagement, the minister conferred with Hassan Yassin, secretary-general of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists.
In another development, Haidar welcomed representatives of transport and freight unions, headed by Bassam Tleis, to discuss pressing issues impacting the road freight sector, with a focus on the conditions of both Lebanese and foreign truck drivers.
After the meeting, Tleis announced that the parties agreed to conduct a follow-up session. This upcoming meeting aims to craft a unified proposal for the labor minister that seeks to balance the protection of the national economy with the rights of workers, while ensuring adherence to Lebanese regulations and the stipulations of Arab countries importing Lebanese goods.
