Beirut: The Lebanese Army said it seized 122mm Grad missiles smuggled from Syria into Lebanon and arrested two Lebanese nationals allegedly involved in a smuggling network.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, in a statement, the Army revealed that on August 3, 2026, a military unit confiscated the missiles in the Arsal highlands. This action was part of broader security operations aimed at curbing smuggling activities across Lebanon's northern and eastern borders. A pickup truck utilized for transporting the missiles was also seized during the operation.
The Army disclosed the initials of the two suspects arrested, (A.H.) and (M.W.), identifying them as members of the smuggling network. In addition, Army units conducted raids to locate other network members, leading to the seizure of military ammunition and equipment.
All confiscated items have been turned over to the relevant authorities, and investigations into the detained suspects have commenced under judicial supervision. The Lebanese Army continues its efforts to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the smuggling network.
