Washington:Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with Lebanese youth and professionals in Washington, including those affiliated with the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, International College, American University of Beirut, and various sectors in the U.S. capital.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, Salam emphasized the importance of engaging with young Lebanese who have left the country for educational and professional pursuits. He highlighted that the success of the government should be gauged by its ability to create a future for young people in Lebanon, rather than merely by laws or projects.
Salam stated that Lebanon's responsibility is to make returning home a choice for its citizens, not a sacrifice. He expressed that young Lebanese desire a state that respects its citizens, rewards competence, ensures a trusted judiciary, a functioning economy, and efficient public services.
He outlined that the state-building project involves genuine internal reform and the establishment of full state sovereignty across Lebanese territory. Salam stressed the importance of having a single army and unified decision-making authority, reaffirming the government's commitment to reform and extending national authority.
Addressing the Lebanese abroad, Salam urged them to stay connected through their expertise, networks, ideas, and investments, and to hold the government accountable based on tangible results.
He concluded by asserting that the Lebanese youth abroad are crucial to rebuilding the country, stating they are not "the generation Lebanon lost," but rather integral to its future restoration.
