Manama: A joint statement was issued on the occasion of the visit of the President of the Lebanese Republic, General Joseph Aoun, to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The visit, held on July 22 and 23, 2025, was marked by discussions aimed at enhancing the longstanding brotherly ties between the two nations.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President Aoun engaged in official talks, focusing on advancing economic, trade, investment, and social cooperation. Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening the private sector, expanding bilateral trade, and activating existing agreements to deepen cultural, educational, tourism, and health collaborations.
The discussions also addressed regional developments, highlighting the necessity of cooperative efforts to ensure security and stability in the Middle East. The leaders expressed a shared commitment to combat terrorism and prevent its financing, while underscoring the importance of respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
King Hamad reiterated Bahrain's support for Lebanese sovereignty and stability, rejecting external interference in Lebanon's internal matters. He affirmed Bahrain's backing of President Aoun's efforts towards political and economic reform, as well as national unity. The statement also recognized the United States' role in enhancing Lebanon's security and stability, emphasizing continued collaboration with international partners to support Lebanon's reconstruction.
The joint statement highlighted Bahrain's support for Lebanon's maintenance of the ceasefire with Israel and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. King Hamad advocated for limiting arms to state forces and extending government control across Lebanon, while supporting the Lebanese army and security forces.
President Aoun expressed gratitude for Bahrain's support and welcomed the strengthening Lebanese-Gulf relations. He congratulated Bahrain on its UN Security Council membership and expressed optimism for the upcoming Gulf summit in Bahrain.
The leaders reviewed the outcomes of the 2024 Bahrain Summit, focusing on joint Arab action and regional stability. They stressed the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue and supporting a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Both sides also supported international efforts to resume U.S.-Iran negotiations on Iran's nuclear program and emphasized the importance of maritime security in the region.
At the visit's conclusion, President Aoun thanked King Hamad for the hospitality extended during his visit. King Hamad wished President Aoun success in his endeavors and extended best wishes to the Lebanese people for continued prosperity.
