Baabda: The 'Liberation and Development' parliamentary bloc did not name any candidate for the premiership during its meeting with President Joseph Aoun as part of the binding parliamentary consultations at Baabda Palace on Monday.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the bloc, which comprises MPs Ali Hassan Khalil, Ali Khreis, Qabalan Qabalan, Nasser Jaber, Qassem Hashem, Ali Osseiran, Mohammad Khaweja, Ghazi Zoaiter, Ashraf Baydoun, Michel Moussa, Hani Qobeissi, Ayoub Hmayyid, Enaya Ezzeddine, and Fadi Alameh, refrained from endorsing any individual for the prime ministerial post. This step comes amid ongoing consultations aimed at forming a new government.
The decision of the 'Liberation and Development' bloc to withhold support for a premiership candidate follows a period of political uncertainty in the country. The bloc's position will likely influence the dynamics of the government formation process, given its significant representation in parliament. The consultations, led by President Aoun, are part of a constitutional process to ensure the selection of a prime minister with broad parliamentary backing.
