Libya’s Al-Menfi Demands Cancellation of Foreign Currency Fee Tax

TRIPOLI: President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, has issued a call to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) to execute court decisions mandating the cancellation of a fee tax on foreign currency sales.

According to Libya News Agency, Al-Menfi expressed this directive in a letter dispatched last Thursday, where he emphasized the importance of adhering to the judiciary’s rulings without delay. He urged both the HoR and the CBL to respect these decisions, warning against any actions that might undermine the rule of law or constitute an abuse of power. The letter highlighted the need for immediate compliance to avoid the imposition of unnecessary financial burdens on the populace.

Further, Al-Menfi underscored the necessity of formulating a budget or financial agreements that directly tackle the issue of unjustified expenditures, which inflate costs and devalue the real income and savings of the Libyan people. He stressed that such measures should aim to allevia
te financial pressure on citizens rather than contribute further to it.

The move to scrap the fee tax comes as part of broader efforts to stabilize the Libyan economy and enhance the efficiency of governmental operations in line with judicial oversight and the rule of law.
