Tripoli: MP Fouad Makhzoumi expressed grave concern over the recent building collapse in al-Qubbah, Tripoli, emphasizing that the incident highlights a pattern of ongoing neglect that endangers residents’ lives. Makhzoumi took to his “X” account to voice the urgency of the situation, pointing out that many citizens in Tripoli live in constant fear under deteriorating structures that could fail at any moment.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Makhzoumi called upon the Cabinet to prioritize Tripoli’s needs on a national level. He urged the government to address Tripoli’s challenges with the same level of seriousness applied to regions in the South that have been affected by similar issues. Makhzoumi stressed that ensuring the safety of citizens should not be subject to discrimination or delays.
Makhzoumi proposed the establishment of an emergency fund, created through government decree, to facilitate the repair of buildings at risk of collapse. He suggested this fund be open to contributions from those willing and able to help, emphasizing the need for a transparent and institutional framework to manage these resources. Makhzoumi also committed to personally contributing to such efforts.
The MP criticized the treatment of Tripoli as merely a political interest during election seasons, asserting that the city is currently being left to confront these dangers alone. Makhzoumi called for a decisive and brave response to protect the residents of Tripoli and uphold their dignity in the face of these persistent threats.
