Media Industry Explores AI Integration Challenges at World Media Summit in Xinjiang

Xinjiang: Media professionals from across the globe gathered in Urumqi, Xinjiang, on Monday to discuss the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the media sector during the 6th World Media Summit. The event focused on the transformative impact of AI technologies on media operations and ethical standards. According to Emirates News Agency, the summit, co-hosted by Xinhua and the Xinjiang regional government, attracted over 500 delegates from 106 countries and regions. Participants included representatives from 208 institutions comprising media houses, governmental bodies, and international organizations. The discussions centered on how AI is reshaping the media landscape, influencing everything from content creation to distribution. The summit culminated in a joint declaration that underscored the necessity of adopting AI responsibly within the media industry, adhering to journalistic ethics and maintaining high professional standards. The declaration also encouraged global media entities to collabo rate and share AI advancements, aiming to foster high-quality development across the industry. A pivotal aspect of the summit was the insights shared from a global survey conducted by the Xinhua Institute. The findings indicated that more than half of the media organizations surveyed are already utilizing generative AI technologies. These technologies are being applied in various journalistic processes including algorithmic recommendations, voice interactions, and automated image generation, revolutionizing how news is gathered, produced, and distributed. The summit highlighted the critical role of AI in driving innovation within the media sector and stressed the importance of international cooperation in navigating the challenges posed by these technological advancements.
