Beirut: Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, engaged in a busy schedule of meetings at the Grand Serail, focusing on various national and international matters. He first met with Akkar Mufti, Sheikh Zaid Mohammad Bakkar Zakaria, to discuss general developments in the region.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Mikati also held a meeting with MP Ahmad Al-Khair, who conveyed his appreciation for Mikati's leadership during the extended presidential vacuum that lasted more than two years and four months. Al-Khair credited Mikati's wisdom, diplomacy, and patience for maintaining stability during this period. He also commented on the recent political consultations, noting a growing consensus around Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam, especially with backing from the Progressive Socialist Party and the Free Patriotic Movement.
MP Jihad Al-Samad also met with Mikati, acknowledging his commitment and fairness during challenging times, including the presidential vacuum and the Israeli aggression on Lebanon. Al-Samad highlighted Mikati's efforts to uphold state legitimacy despite limited resources.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Mikati discussed general matters with Agriculture Minister Abbas Hajj Hassan. He also reviewed preparations for reopening the Emirati Embassy in Beirut with Lebanon's Ambassador to the UAE, Fouad Chehab Dandan.
Dr. Fadlo Khuri, President of the American University of Beirut, was also received by Mikati. Their discussions centered around the university's current situation and efforts to sustain education and healthcare amid ongoing challenges. Dr. Khuri expressed optimism about Lebanon's future following the election of a new President and the designation of Nawaf Salam as Prime Minister.
