Beirut: Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Friday met at the Grand Serail with Major General Aroldo Lazaro, the Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), leading a delegation to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon and the challenges faced by UNIFIL in its operations. During the meeting, Mikati expressed Lebanon's appreciation for the "tireless efforts" of UNIFIL during this challenging period, emphasizing the importance of the force's role and its continued presence in the south. According to National news agency - Lebanon, Mikati insisted on the need to preserve the tasks and operational protocols assigned to UNIFIL, which are executed in close cooperation with the Lebanese Army. Moreover, the PM condemned the Israeli assaults on UNIFIL and the threats directed at its personnel, commending "the determination of many friendly nations to support the continuation of UNIFIL's work in south Lebanon." "The expansion of Israeli aggression into Lebanese ter ritories, along with repeated threats to evacuate entire cities and villages and renewed airstrikes targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut, are indicators that the Israeli enemy rejects all efforts to cease fire and fully implement Resolution 1701," Mikati stated. The Prime Minister further reaffirmed Lebanon's ongoing commitment to the United Nations resolution and its provisions, asserting that "Israeli statements and the diplomatic signals received by Lebanon reflect the enemy's obstinacy in rejecting proposed solutions and its insistence on a path of killing and destruction. This places the entire international community before its historical and moral responsibilities to stop this aggression."
