Beirut: Minister of Information, Attorney Dr. Paul Morcos, visited the site designated for the Journalists and Media Professionals' Garden near the UNESCO Palace in Beirut. Accompanied by Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, Beirut Municipality Head Engineer Ibrahim Zeidan, and Raphael Dabbane, founder of Dabbane Group of Companies for Agriculture and owner of "Exotica" Company, the minister discussed plans for the garden's development and sustainability.
According to National News agency - Lebanon, Minister Morcos clarified that the visit was for coordination purposes rather than an opening announcement. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Beirut Municipality and expressed gratitude for their support. The project, supported by Exotica Company, aims to ensure the garden's sustainability and completion in various forms across different governorates.
Minister Morcos noted that the meeting was a continuation of previous discussions and that further meetings would be needed to finalize implementation phases. The project's timeline is contingent upon the availability of necessary engineering, agricultural, and technical resources. A primary focus is on securing irrigation sources to maintain the garden's vibrancy and greenery, avoiding routine activities without proper follow-up.
The initiative aims to honor media professionals, journalists, and photographers by providing designated spaces in appreciation of their work. The project envisions completion across all governorates and may include naming streets and squares after journalism pioneers, as well as establishing rest areas and studios for media professionals along key routes.
Morcos expressed hope for continued coordination with local authorities to develop agricultural plans for the park, ensuring its greenery and sustainability through proper irrigation and maintenance. The project will involve preparing seating areas and assessing support and funding options in preparation for the opening.
Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud reiterated the municipality's commitment to the project, pledging continued support within legal and capacity limits. The Head of Beirut Municipality affirmed the immediate response to the Minister's request, emphasizing the importance of honoring journalists and their contributions to the country.
Raphael Dabbane, owner of Exotica Company, highlighted the critical role of irrigation in maintaining the garden's vitality.
