Beirut: Caretaker Minister of Education and Higher Education, Abbas Halabi, on Wednesday announced that following the ceasefire and the country's transition into a phase of calm, his ministry will continue to adapt its educational plans to the evolving situation on the ground. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Halabi highlighted the current challenges faced by the education sector due to the recent conflicts. With many teachers and parents inspecting the damage to their homes or returning to their areas, schools that had previously been designated as shelters are seeing families depart. These schools now require assessment for repairs to return to their educational function, Halabi stated in a recent announcement. Minister Halabi emphasized the need for the resumption of in-person teaching alongside remote learning for private educational institutions and higher education institutions until the end of 2024. He confirmed that schools operating normally would continue as usual, ensuring mi nimal disruption to the educational process. Additionally, Halabi addressed the situation of official schools that were used as shelters or operated in two shifts. These schools will remain closed until the end of this week, with plans to resume their educational duties on Monday. The Ministry has tasked its engineering unit with assessing school buildings and preparing necessary reports to ensure the safety and readiness of these facilities for educational purposes.
