Minister of Information Urges Unity Amid Israeli Aggression and Warns Against Fake News

BEIRUT: Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad al-Makary, has urged Lebanese citizens and media to maintain national unity and exercise caution against fake news disseminated by Israel. He emphasized the importance of verifying and documenting the crimes of the Israeli occupation to hold them accountable while announcing the establishment of a monitoring team within the Ministry of Information. According to National news agency - Lebanon, Makary made these remarks during a press conference at the Ministry of Information, attended by prominent media figures such as Press Syndicate Head Awni al-Kaaki and Deputy Head of the Editors Syndicate Salah Takieddine. Makary highlighted the multi-dimensional aggression waged by Israel against Lebanon, noting its potential to incite internal tensions. He praised the Lebanese society's solidarity and political awareness, which he stated are crucial in preserving national unity during this critical period. Makary stressed the pivotal role of the media in maintaining nati onal responsibility and unity, advising against turning media platforms into dangerous spaces for displaced individuals. He clarified that the Information Ministry does not function as a censorship body and acknowledged the judiciary's role in managing misinformation. He commended the National News Agency for its credibility and urged cooperation with the platform to counter fake news that could heighten domestic tensions. Makary's call to action underscores the need for a cohesive national front and responsible media practices in the face of external threats.
