Beirut: Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar and Defense Minister Michel Menassa closely monitored the second phase of municipal and mukhtar elections from a joint operations room, with a particular focus on the North Lebanon and Akkar governorates.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Al-Hajjar underscored the high level of coordination among security agencies, emphasizing that the success of the electoral process hinges on continuous collaboration. He noted that the President had visited the Internal Security Forces operation room, while the Defense Minister was present with them. Al-Hajjar also mentioned a conversation with the Prime Minister, confirming the government's collective efforts, characterized by coordination and seriousness, to ensure the elections' success.
Al-Hajjar stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation between the Internal Security Forces, tasked with securing polling stations, and the Lebanese Army, which maintains a robust presence outside these centers. He acknowledged the significant challenges in the North and Akkar governorates and highlighted that the Defense Minister's presence signifies the army's readiness to address any security breaches during the elections.
In his remarks, Defense Minister Menassa stated that President Joseph Aoun had launched the second phase of the municipal elections, with the army and security forces fulfilling their duties. He aligned with the President's vision, stating that the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and Justice are in sync with this electoral milestone. Menassa pointed out the army's deployment across Lebanese territories, particularly outside polling stations, to ensure a secure environment.
Menassa recognized the Ministry of Interior's significant efforts and stressed the necessity of continuous coordination between the army and internal security forces, each operating within their legal mandates. He concluded with a firm statement: "Failure is not an option. The elections will proceed, and the army will suppress any violations. Maintaining security and stability is a collective responsibility."
